Northern Light Yoga Doreen offers a range of weekly classes, meditations, occasional workshops, retreats, and get togethers with Jenny Rock, a senior teacher in the uniquely balancing and healing Gita Style Tradition of Yoga.
This style originated here in Melbourne more than 50 years ago and is ESPECIALLY HELPFUL FOR PEOPLE WITH BUSY STRESSED LIVES AND BODIES, WHO ARE TRYING TO JUGGLE IT ALL!
The purpose/vision of this yoga studio is to empower people with:
- how to be healthy and well
- how to feel balanced psychologically
- how to access a deeper sense of purpose, meaning and connectedness in life
What can you expect?
- All the classes usually go for 1 hour and 15 minutes and are intended to be nurturing and supportive
- The techniques are very much geared to the point that you are currently at and allow you to work within your body’s limits and not beyond
- You can expect no forcing, no pushing, no competing and therefore no injuries.
- For this reason, the classes are small in numbers with a maximum of 11.
- The classes are carefully scaffolded and structured so that you can achieve an amazing amount with the techniques, WITHOUT ANY FEELING OF STRAIN. ie As a very experienced teacher, I can adapt the techniques to you
- The classes follow a pattern and a rhythm which means by about week 5, you can feel the wonderful paradox of relaxing deeply while working strongly
- This pattern is usually: relaxation, various limbering exercises targeted to people’s current needs as well as the prevailing energies and the postures for that class, 1 of a vast range of breathing techniques, 10 classic postures and/or their variations in a specific sequence, relaxation
- All this is interwoven with the deeper philosophy that animates and vivifies the techniques
- Everything you need for the class is already provided at the venue: blankets, bolsters, mats etc
- The classes run on a term basis, with an active discouragement of casuals. This means that you are able to PROGRESS (–never possible in classes where new people turn up each week) and feel a very supportive group energy
- No matter what space you are in, whether physically or emotionally, you can expect to feel more energised and more relaxed at the end of each class.
- Weekly resource sheets are usually supplied with each class to support and further explain the practices and to encourage you
